Description
Film footage from 1955 of the installation of the Saint Francis statue at Saint Francis of Assisi Church in the North Beach district of San Francisco. Saint Francis of Assisi Church was the first Catholic parish church established in San Francisco in 1849, and it is named after the city's patron saint, Saint Francis. The statue was created by Italian sculptor and artist Beniamino Bufano, whose sculptures are found all over San Francisco. In the film, Monsignor Alvin P. Wagner, a priest of the Archdiocese of San Francisco oversees the installation being completed by workmen from Farnsworth & Ruggles Draying Rigging Company.
