Photograph caption dated April 22, 1955 reads "Dr. David Murray, president of Y's Men's Club of Woodman Square YMCA, left, and Phillip White, Y committee management chairman, center, accept American flag from Robert S. Maile, who made presentation on behalf of his father, the late Rev. John L. Maile, who served four years in Civil War. Government gave flag to Maile family in 1934 when Rev. Maile, member of Stanton Post, GAR, died." G.A.R., Grand Army of the Republic, was a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union Army (United States Army), Union Navy (U.S. Navy), Marines and the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service who served in the American Civil War for the Northern/Federal forces. The YMCA is in Pacoima.
