Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Men and women comprise the Ferris Jazzland Revue jazz band, circa 1925. Included in the band is a banjo player who is a woman as is the drummer. Bismark Ferris (far right, sax) was band leader. Amy Ferris is at top, center.
