Description
1989-1288. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 37. In the foreground is a road which divides in front of a cemetary vault; in front of the vault is an entrance flanked by two tall shrubs; behind the shrubs hedges provide a border; the vault is partially hidden by the tall shrubs; the entrance to the vault is up a low set of stairs; a pediment crowns the entrance; the top is a dome with a cross at the apex; other tombs can be seen on both sides of this vault. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Grave directly in back of the center vault is that of Rev. J.S. Mess Cotter, pastor of St. Roses Church of Sacramento. 'Born, Dec. 30th, 1834, at Donneraile Co., Cork, Ireland, In all Hallows College, Dublin.Died, June 18, 1868"
