The State Normal School, the created a the Training Department in 1869, in an effort to provide student teachers with practical classroom experience working with children from kindergarten to eighth grade. This classroom scene is a typical representation of children at play in the kindergarten and primary school departments of the Normal School. Set design? Or playing house?
