Description: Image of the front of the Arcadia Hotel facing east along Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, California, with a courtyard and garden. The sign on the hotel says "Hotel Santa Monica." Only three of the five stories of the hotel can be seen from the east face.
78. Hotel Arcadia, Santa Monica"--text, on item. "Photo by C.C. Pierce"--text, handwritten in pencil on verso. "Hazard-Dyson collection"--text, stamped on verso. This building has the name "Hotel Santa Monica" and not "Arcadia" as in related items. Title transcribed from item. Date devised by cataloger based on history of the Arcadia Hotel, which was completed in 1887 and demolished in 1909, and the sign reading "Hotel Santa Monica" on the building; early signs read "Hotel Arcadia.
