Description
Two views of workers harvesting hay near Galt. View 1 (2003-0065). Shows three men and a boy working in a hay field with horses, hay wagon, and haying equipment -- view 2 (2003-0066). Shows horse-drawn wagon, hay hoist and men working at a very large hay stack; three children standing in lower right. Negatives, nos. 4,440 and 4,441 (4 x 5 in.) Reproduction of originals. Baxter Sperry; John McFarland was born in 1823 in Scotland. Came to California in 1850; in 1857 bought land in Galt for ranch. Descendants sold the ranch to the Nature Conservancy, who in turn, sold portion of ranch to the Sacramento County Dept. of Parks and Recreation. The Dept. and Galt Area Historical Society created the McFarland Living History Ranch in 1999.
