Description
This photograph shows attendants of the 2002 Ice Cream Social eating ice cream and looking at the souvenir portrait photo card from the "Avian Alcove." The September 2002 Ice Cream Social event event marked the debut of the "Avian Alcove" outdoor exhibit in the gardens of the Velaslavasay Panorama. This was a "living diorama" - a painted backdrop with sculptures of birds staged with real and artificial plants along with an ambient audio playback of bird sounds. The installation was a collaboration between sisters Sara Velas and Karen Velas.
