Northridge Receiving Hospital, later renamed Northridge Hospital, then Northridge Hospital Medical Center, was founded by Dr. Frederick Gruneck in 1955. Photograph caption dated January 22, 1965 reads, "Mrs. Jane Katherine Penn, a member of the Morongo Indian Tribe whose reservation is near Palm Springs, talks to, from left, Dr. Bernard Penner, Dr. Harry R. Kinsling, Mrs. Grace Leiland and Irving Refkin, president of the Harridge Foundation. The foundation treats Indians free of charge."
