Susanne Wilson with Councilwoman Janet Gray Hayes during the 1973 campaign. Gray Hayes ran for mayor. Both Wilson and Gray Hayes won their election bids. By 1978 San Jose became known as the "Feminist Capital," due to the large number of women running and winning election campaigns in local and state government. Susanne B.
