Photograph caption dated October 28, 1959 reads, "Vice presidents of Lockheed and Hughes aircraft companies take off for "hidden side" not of moon but of mid-1960s with two companies' joint design of "space ferry." Bert C. Monesmith of Lockheed, Burbank, right, and Roy E. Wendahl, left, say vehicle, designed as ferry to and from manned satellites, also can be used to track and inspect unidentified space objects, and as "space sweeper" to clear spaceways of hazardous objects. Cylinder in center holds crew and/or payload."
