Photograph included in the exhibit: "Signs of Life : Los Angeles is the City of Neon." In the 1930s Wayne McAllister designed circular Simons Drive-in Restaurants in the Streamline Moderne style with a three-layer roof and neon advertising pylon. McAllister was the original designer of this style of circular drive-in, which was copied throughout the country. This Simon's, located at Wilshire Boulevard and Hoover Street, is well lit for outside drive-up customers. The marquee advertises sancwiches, hamburgers, barbecue, and fountain, and signs with prices for food items are hung in a line all across the windowtops.
