Photograph article dated June 22, 1961 partially reads, "A group of Valley teenagers, disappointed because they weren't welcomed into adult art clubs, have done-it-themselves and formed the North Valley Art Association. 'Several of us tried to join an adult art association, but they didn't want teenagers as members,' said Jack Lawrence, 16, founder of the youth art group...Today, the North Valley Art Association is five months old and has 20 members who, Lawrence points out, are 'all serious students of art.'" Michele Lehrer, 14, president of the North Valley Art Association shows artwork to founder, Jack Lawrence, and Mrs. Frank Vitale, Van Nuys Woman's Club art chairman.
