Orderly book of Matthew Dixon's command, including general orders from Howe's headquarters and "chief engineer's orders" during the New York campaign (1776). On Aug. 14, 1776, Major Matthew Dixon of the Corps of Engineers was appointed "Chief Engineer to the Army in North America," replacing John Motressor who had accepted the assignment of the aid-de-camp to Sir William Howe.
