Lavinia Gertrude Goodyear was born in Genoa, New York in 1809. Married Charles Waterhouse in 1830. Family arrived in California around 1853, settling in Sacramento. She was hydropathic physician, ran the Sacramento Water Cure. She was active in woman's suffrage movement, a poet and artist. Died in Pacific Grove in 1890.
