Description
This circa 1960 postcard shows the March 1844 arrival of Christopher "Kit" Carson and John C. Fremont at Sutter's Fort. The Kentucky-born Carson was hired by Fremont in 1843 to serve as a guide and lead an expedition to explore a new route over the Rocky and Sierra Nevada Mountains to Sutter's Fort and nearby venues.
