Photograph of Scheiner's engraving of the solar surface, 1635. The image appears to be from an unidentified book. The title cartouche at top reads "Schema Corporis Solaris. Prout ab Auctore et P. Scheinero. Romae Anno 1635". Perhaps Christoph Scheiner, 1575-1650. The space surrounding the sun is labeled "Aethereum Spatium"; the top is labeled "Polus Borealis"; the center (left) is labeled "Aequator", and the bottom is labeled "Polus Australis".
