Image of a map of Charleston Harbor and the surrounding forts, including Fort Moultrie, Fort Sumter, Fort Johnson, and Castle Pinckney with the location of Union merchant ship Star of the West when it was fired upon from Morris Island during the American Civil War; bust-length portrait of Union Major Robert Anderson in military uniform; small image of a view of the city of Charleston, South Carolina, off the North Channel in bottom margin.
"Lith. P.S. Duval & Son Philadela."--text, top left of image. "Published by Geo. T. Perry"--text, bottom right of image. "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1861 by Geo. T. Perry in the Clerk's office of the District Court for the Eastern Dist of Penn"--text, bottom right margin. "Forts Moultrie and Sumter, are situated on opposite sides of the entrance of Charleston harbor, and completely cover and command it. ... and hence two men at one of these could defend it against five hundred."--text, bottom left of image.
