Photograph caption dated July 12, 1926 reads, "Here Lieut. Frank Harlan, commander of the city motorcycle division, is inspecting the pistol of Officer G. B. Carlson, rated as the best shot in the entire squadron, and for 10 years a member of the motorcycle force, while the other officers are lined up for inspection." Notation written on the verso reads, "Lieut. Frank Harlan inspecting the pistol of G. B. Carlson, the expert shot of the Los Angeles motorcycle squadron. Carlson is number 8 man in squad number 4 and has been in service 10 years."
