Domenico (Dominic) Di Ciolla, was one of the earliest leaders of what became known as the Los Angeles crime family. He was involved in bootlegging and allegedly several murders. He was found murdered near Pacoima in 1931, after challenging other crime bosses in an attempt to expand his expand his criminal operations.
Photograph used for an article dated April 8, 1931; it reads "Here is Domenico di Ciolla, standing at extreme right, asserted Los Angeles kingpin bootlegger, victim of an unsolved gang murder, with a group of friends at a Redondo Beach party.
