Title supplied by cataloger. Spahn Ranch, located on Santa Susana Pass Road in Chatsworth, was once originally owned by silent film actor William S. Hart. It was a popular backdrop for many western films and a western village movie set existed until it was destroyed by fire in 1973. George Spahn purchased the property in 1948. Twenty years later, Charles Manson and his family moved there after Manson made arrangements for one of the family members, Lynette Fromme, to do Spahn's housekeeping and be his companion in exchange for living there rent-free. Police first raided Spahn Ranch in August 1969 in search of criminal evidence Three employees of the Los Angeles County Flood Control District inspect a well on Spahn Ranch, where the Manson Family was living.
