Photograph caption dated January 25, 1983 reads, "Sharon Gless, left, and Tyne Daly, who says 'Cagney & Lacey' is the natural descendant of 'Charlie's Angels' and 'Police Woman.' 'In some ways, we are the next step,' says Daly." Gless and Daly are NYPD detectives in the starring roles, and the gritty urban setting is actually Los Angeles made to look like New York City.
