Image of a map of the routes and connecting lines of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway showing portions of the Midwestern and Eastern United States; three vignettes to the left of the map labeled “Chautauqua Views” and consisting of a landscape with a train in the foreground labeled “Hill of Chautauqua,” the “Grant Hotel, Pt. Chautauqua,” and “St. Paul’s Grove and Hall of Philosophy” showing a Greek-style amphitheater behind trees; map verso contains panels with fold-up map covers with vignettes of steam locomotives, railroad timetables, promotional descriptions, and a map of a railroad route between Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Lake Erie.
Two panels containing the New England portion of map are missing. Probable date based on printed timetable on verso labeled, "Lake Shore & Michigan Southern R'Y. / Summer Time Table of Main Line Revised May 15th, 1881." "Wm. P. Northrup & Co., Map Engravers, Buffalo, N.Y."--text, bottom right of map. "Matthews, Northrup & Co., 'Morning Express' Printing House, Buffalo, N.Y."--text, bottom center of cover page. "The Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railway Extends into Six States Without Change of Cars through Union Depots ---A [text missing]"--text, upper margin.
