Description
Photograph of oil sprouting from a derrick at the Playa del Rey oil field in Venice, ca.1925. Oil shoots from a tall derrick at center, the remnants of which form a dusty cloud that spreads to the right. Beneath the oilrig sit a series of shed-like structures, and a stair at right leads to a second layer of such. In the foreground, one can see portions of parked automobiles, while a few derricks dot the background behind the lines of utility poles. At left stands what appears to be a small dock leading to the water.
