Text of signage: "Archeological excavations here have confirmed that this is an ancient hospital. One room has still a stone-cut medicine trough (behet oruva) which has been used to treat the patients by immersing in herbal oil. Several surgical and medical instructions used at the time have been discovered during excavations at the site. This 12th century hospital more or less follows the 8th century Mihintale prototype in having two distinct units built together, namely living and treatment sections. Both sections have open courts at the center." The sign includes a ground plan.
