Building on left has sign painted on side for Castrolube. Western Hotel on left. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Front & Kay st. Looking East. Ebner's Hotel, right, erected in 1856. 'What Cheer House', former hotel, erected in 1853, site now occupied by Bert McDowell firm."
