Douglas Aircraft Co.'s new amphibian plane "Dolphin", developed as a less luxurious version of the "Sinbad" in 1931, above Clover Field (Santa Monica Airport). The first two Dolphins were purchased by Wilmington-Catalina Airlines to transport passengers between Los Angeles and Catalina, becoming the first Douglas airliners. Subsequent examples were used by the US Navy and US Coast Guard for transports and search and rescue missions. Photo dated: December 19, 1931.
