Northern Ireland's George Best came to the U.S. to play for the Los Angeles Aztecs of the North American Soccer League, the first serious attempt to launch professional soccer in the U.S. The owners' strategy was to hire the world's best talent, though many of the players (including Best, one of sports' all-time bad boys) were past their prime.
