2009-1064. View of oxen-driven covered wagon at Sutter's Fort, prior to departure for the Bay Bridge opening celebration on November 12, 1936. Photograph was taken on November 5, 1936. A group of men are posed in front of the covered wagon, and an oxen is seen on the far left. Mrs. Bettie Ogle and Mrs. L. Sibert (not identified to position), are seen sitting in the covered wagon. In the front row of men, the second from left is Arthur Serviss Dudley, third from left is Charles William Deterding, Jr., fourth from left is James S. Dean, and fifth from left is Governor Frank Merriam. In the back row, the third from left is Harry C. Peterson, and the 10th from left is photographer Harold James McCurry. McCurry no. 31959-2. Sacramento's contribution to the celebration of the opening of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge was the Progress of Transportation Pageant. The Pageant consisted of a different form of transportation leaving Sutter's Fort each day, traveling to San Francisco for the opening. Pageant was sponsored by the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce. The covered wagon, pulled by a ten-ox team, left Sutter's Fort on Nov. 5th. Driven by Tom Cowan.
