Bust-length portrait.
Born in Texas in 1849 of Scotch descent to Umbleton S. Gregory and Mary Hewitt. Arrived in California in 1868, settling in Ione where engaged in lumber business; owned a harness, hardware and drug store. Served as President of 26th agricultural district; in 1884 elected to the Assembly; served as county sheriff. Married Ella Fythian in 1871.
