Presidential Candidate Ángel Aníbal Guevara's speaks in front of a crowd of Mayan women, men and children during election week. He is holding a microphone. On March 8, 1982 Guevara won the presidential election although electoral fraud was claimed by other parties. A military coup prevented Guevara from assuming power and installed a three-man junta headed by General Efraín Ríos Montt.
