A bright yellow and purple steel tower, called the "Artists' Tower for Peace," was nearing completion today on a vacant lot at Sunset and La Cienega Boulevards on the Sunset Strip, despite setbacks by vandals. The tower will rise to about 50 feet by completion date scheduled for Feb. 21. A dedication ceremony will be held on Feb. 26. Besides being a symbol against the Viet Nam policy, the tower will have a sort of functional purpose. Sabateurs have showed up occasionally during the night and wrecked equipment, it was said. Plans are being made to guard the site. Photo dated: February 18, 1966.
