Description: Scoop trucks like this one have played an important part in reducing the cost per ton for collecting and disposing of rubbish in the Los Angeles harbor area. The project there cut cost from $14.23 in December to $8.00 in March, during which time the amount of rubbish collected increased more than four times! Mrs. Barbara Brown of Torrance watches the operation. Photo dated: May 2, 1956.
