Many a hiker knows and loves the delightful peace of Pacoima Canyon, one of the most rugged and picturesque in all Southern California. It is just five miles northeast of San Fernando, and can be penetrated only on foot. A lusty little stream rushes merrily through, bordered by a narrow trail and innumerable fine picnic spots. A quarter of a mile from the mouth are the Narrows, where the perpendicular walls rise for several hundred feet. Here is being built the County Flood Control Dam, 283 feet high, the highest one in the West, which will cost about $2,470,000. Photo dated: March 19, 1928.
