Description
Postcard depicts the image of an observation tower, called the Marine Exchange, with several people standing both on and around the tower. A telegraph pole can be seen next to the tower. Title transcribed from front of the postcard, which reads "Marine Exchange on Summit of Mt. Tamalpais, California. Established by S.F. Examiner for sighting vessels far out at sea. On clear days vessels can be sighted 60 to 75 miles and reported by wire in San Francisco two hours before they can be seen from the Cliff House." In the lower-lefthand corner, the number A11359 can be seen. There is a handwritten message in the upper right corner on the postcard's face which reads, "I have to climb this pole once a week and oil the anemoneter [sp?]. It is up in the air zone. R.L.F." The back of the postcard contains a sender and return address. The postcard is addressed to F.A. Yates of Hermiston, Oregon. The publisher information listed on the back is given as, "M. Rieder, Publ., Los Angeles, Cal. and Dresden. No 6086." The postcard is postmarked Tamalpais May 8th, 1907, and Hermiston, Oregon May 10th, 1907.
