Photograph article dated July 2, 1965 partially reads, "The world's most attractive pilots - 160 strong - today anxiously awaited the starter's flag in the 19th annual Powder Puff Derby. Known internationally as the All-Woman transcontinental Air Race, the derby begins at 8 a.m. tomorrow from El Cajon's Gillespie Field in San Diego County. In the race, which will eventually end at Lovell Field, Chattanooga, Tenn., are six Valley women, some of them veterans of previous derby competition." Pictured is Mrs. Florence Dittmar, who holds a commercial license with more than 1,000 hours of flying time and was the winner of the 'Woman Pilot of the Year' award from the Valley Chapter of the 99's.
