Description
Shown in circa 1925 is Sutter's Fort and its central building, located at Twenty-Seventh and K streets. During the Gold Rush, the building was operated by Rufus Hitchcock who used the top floor as a boarding house while the front room, on the lower level, was used as a drinking and gambling saloon. The cost of board was 40 dollars per week.
