Description
Image of an eye-level landscape view of the A. Whitney & Sons Car Wheel Works factory building and smokestacks in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with an empty street in the foreground except for a few pedestrians, in the upper half of the sheet; the lower half of the sheet contains an image of an elevation view of the side of a steam locomotive, with a 4-4-0 wheel arrangement and tender, showing a cross section of a railway turntable underneath the tracks with promotional text for William Sellers & Co.; the verso contains a page of printed text titled "The State of Rhode Island."
Probable date based on references in printed text on item verso to statistics as of 1850. "J. Mc Goffin Eng."--text, bottom center margin of top image. "A. Whitney & Sons / car wheel works / corner of 16th and Callowhill Streets Philadelphia Penn."
