Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated January 28, 1963 partially reads, "The long Lockheed Aircraft corp. - International Association of Machinists labor dispute is over. IAM members ratified the new three-year contract Sunday although it contained no union shop provisions--the key issue in the lengthy dispute...In the meeting, at the Shrine Auditorium, McNett told IAM members that the new pact will result in a 'stronger union and a union much better able to deal with management on an equal footing.' But he acknowledged that the contract didn't represent all the union had wanted. In explaining why the union dropped its union shop or agency shop demands, most IAM officials stressed the costly aspects of another strike. 'A work stoppage would have been a long one and the final gain uncertain,' McNett said."
