Photograph was edited for publication purposes. The Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, located at 3939 S. Figueroa Street, was officially opened on July 4, 1959 by then Vice President Richard M. Nixon and was designed by Welton Becket; general contractor was L.E. Dixon Company. The last event at the arena was a Bruce Springsteen concert. The arena was closed on March 19, 2016 and demolished to make room for a new soccer stadium. Photograph caption dated January 18, 1964 reads "Los Angeles Blade goalie Jack Norris (0), and starting to dive for loose puck, leaves the security of his net after a wild scramble and a Portland Buckaroo scoring thrust. Norris froze the puck and got back where he belongs as the Blades won 4-2 in Thursday's game. Jack Bownass (2) and Camile Beddard [sic] (15) of the Blades start their move to protect the diving Norris. Portland's Arnie Schmatz decided discretion was the better part of valor and stayed away." The game was held at the Sports Arena.
