Description
Bill Honig, second from left, announed appointments at a Sacramento Press Conference: From left, Don Spiech, communications director; Richard "Pete" Mesa, chief deputy superintendent; and Gilbert Marguth, deputy for internal management. Honig was elected Superintendent of Public Instruction in 1982 and served three terms. Formerly a teacher and school superintendent, Honig served on the State Board of Education and the State's UC Board of Regents. He has worked in a variety of education nonprofits including CORE (cofounder, Consortium on Reading Excellence) and founded Honig Vineyard and Winery in the Napa Valley.
