Prior to its construction, the lot had been occupied by an expansive estate, built in 1926 for William Jenkins, which served as the home of aging Hollywood star Norma Desmond in Billy Wilder's film "Sunset Boulevard."; Built in 1926 by Edward B. Rust and Luther Mayo in a Mission Revival style, the Los Altos Apartments were originally developed as a "co-op", but went bankrupt during the Great Depression.
