This view of the Vincent Thomas Bridge, also known as the Saint Vincent Thomas Bridge, is from the parking lot of the Catalina Cruise Terminal. It is also how the bridge appears as one comes off the Harbor Boulevard exit from the 110 Harbor Freeway. It was built in the early 60's, and opens up San Pedro to the rest of the world. Prior to the bridge, one had to take a ferry to and from Long Beach across the channel. The old ferry building on the San Pedro side still stands today and functions as The Los Angeles Maritime Museum. That channel has been filled in, with piers built on the landfills to service the container shipping industry.
