Description
Photograph of the front of Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, 1890. A group of six children stand or sit near the entry and ballustrade which runs atop a stone wall surrounding the mission. The mission is situated on an area elevated from the level of the street and sidewalk in front of it with a stone wall which separates the mission from the street. An older structure (adobe?) -- the church proper bearing the date "1772" -- abuts a newer wooden structure (in front). Bells are hanging in the square bell tower with peaked roof. A mountain is visible in the background. Photograph taken from a hotel opposite the mission.
