San Fernando Valley State College later became California State University, Northridge. Photograph article dated February 20, 1964 partially reads, "Twenty Valley State students are at work preparing for a 50-mile hike Friday. How do you prepare for a 50-mile hike? "You lift weights, and do deep knee bends, spread eagles, and bicycles until you can't move," reports Tom Wyneken. Wyneken is a reporter for the school paper, the Sundial, which is sponsoring the event. He expects 20 students - both men and women - to participate in the marathon which will start from somewhere in Ventura tomorrow about 10 p.m." Rosalie Long, junior, left, and Denise Kusel, senior, will try 50-mile trek.
