Photograph of an exterior view of the first custom house in California, an adobe structure in Monterey, ca.1890. A two-story structure with a covered balcony surrounding it can be seen at center. Other buildings adjacent to it follow the line of railroad tracks into the distance at left. At least two men can be seen under the balcony. Hills can be seen in the background.
