Photograph article dated August 24, 1957 partially reads, "Two men, including a Granada Hills aerial photographer, were killed when their twin-engine plane exploded in a ball of fire after a near collision with a passenger plane over Pittsburgh, Pa. Dead are John H. MacPherson Jr., 34, of 10347 Collette Ave. and the pilot Gilbert Mencoza, 29, of Norwalk. Both were employed by Hy-con Aerial Surveys, Inc., of Pasadena. They were flying in a converted P-38 World War II fighter yesterday when an airliner carrying 48 passengers made a sharp turn to avoid a mid-air collision." Photograph caption reads, "Learn of tragedy - Mrs. John H. MacPherson is comforted by her daughter, Carol, 10, after hearing that her husband perished in Pennsylvania plane crash. MacPhersons have two other children."
