Description
This circa 1930 postcard shows the room in which Leland Stanford, Jr., was born, in May 1864. While touring Europe in 1884, Stanford came down with typhoid fever. He came under the care of Catholic nuns, but died in Florence, Italy, on March 13, 1884. He is the inspiration and namesake of Leland Stanford, Jr., University in Palo Alto, California, which was endowed by with parents.
