Description
Photograph of the Carnation Gardens, Redondo, ca.1920-1929. A boy and girl stand amid the Redondo Beach Carnation Garden, holding armloads of carnations. Neat rows of plants surround them. In the background, two men are seen picking the flowers with electrical lines and tall trees behind them. Photoprint reads: "Carnation Gardens, located east of the Hotel Redondo to attract tourist. About 1903, a Mr. William Wolfskill, developed a carnation garden. 12 acres of carnations were usually always in bloom. In April of 1913, the gardens were sold for $40,000.00, for development as a new housing tract." -- unknown author.
