The large steam ship Hermosa #1 is leaving a wooden pier at center, and three smaller sailing vessels are anchored in the crescent-shaped harbor at right. The edge of the town of Avalon is along the shore to the left, and is composed of a single row of large tents. A large house is built on a hill in the foreground at right, and a large tower protrudes from the middle of it.
